Camp Swim Program

Mission

Our mission is to teach campers the skills they need for water safety, in addition to the fundamental skills and techniques of swimming.

All campers three years old through fifth grade receive regular instruction from American Red Cross certified Water Safety Instructors. Lessons are designed utilizing the guidelines of the American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program. Instruction focuses on providing a safe and nurturing environment where each swimmer is encouraged and challenged, but never pressured or forced to participate. The Camp Swim Program helps each of our campers advance their aquatics skills.

Evaluation Test

On their first day of camp, swimmers are evaluated to determine their appropriate start level. The evaluation consists of having the child demonstrate a series of skills based on the six levels of American Red Cross Guidelines. Class placement is based on ability and swim experience, not on the child’s age. A Swim Skills Report will be provided every other week during summer camp so that you can track the progress of your camper.

Attire & Gear

Swimmers must bring a bathing suit and towel to every swim lesson. Goggles are optional. Please remember to label all swim equipment that is brought to the pool. The Aquatics Department does not keep extra supplies of bathing suits or towels.

Policies

As a prerequisite for participation in the JCC Summer Camp Swim Program, campers must be potty trained and must be willing to participate in class without a parent’s assistance.

If the JCC has to cancel a camp swim lesson due to situations beyond our control (i.e., weather-related cancellations, power loss, pool repairs, etc.), the class will not be made up. Instruction will resume where the class left off on the following day during its normally scheduled session.
