JTours: Congregation Mickve Israel with Rabbi Robert Haas

Founded in 1733, Congregation Mickve Israel is America’s third oldest Jewish congregation and its first Ashkenazic synagogue. The current building, which was completed in 1878, has been named by a number of organizations, including Condé Nast Traveler, as one of the 15 Most Beautiful Synagogues in the World. The synagogue’s museum holds the first presidential letter to a Jewish community (from President Washington) and the first two Torah scrolls to come to America. Written in the 15th century, they are also the two oldest Torah scrolls in the county.

Rabbi Haas, the current rabbi of Congregation Mickve Israel, is a sought-after comedian, lecturer, preacher, and interfaith leader who regularly speaks and performs for organizations, radio shows, colleges, theaters, houses of worships, and institutions. On many levels, this is certain to be an interesting and entertaining event!
