Get to know Andrew Sensi, the JCC's General Manager of Sports and Wellness

Describe yourself in three words
Ambitious. Adventurous. Learner.

How long have you been with the JCC?
15 months

Describe what you do at the JCC
I manage the sports and wellness department, which includes all fitness (weight room, cardio, group exercise, personal training, small group training, personal training), aquatics, and sports programming for both the Uptown and Metairie locations.

What do you love most about your job?
Helping my staff grow and excel at doing what they do best.

If you could swap places with one other person at the JCC for a day, who would you pick and why?
I’d swap with Rachel Zoller. Rachel has responsibilities across the entire JCC and gets to experience everything that makes the J great from nursery school to group exercise to older adult programming.

Where did you grow up?
Fairfax, Virginia. About 20 miles west of Washington, D.C

What is your favorite New Orleans restaurant and why?
Jacque-Imo's. When anyone asks, "where should I eat?," I always tell them Jacque-Imo's. The food is spectacular, the atmosphere is laid back and it’s just quintessential New Orleans.

Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us.
I really enjoy creative projects such as building furniture and painting. I’ve built tables, desks, shelves, picture frames, and grill carts, among other things. I really enjoy the challenge of learning a new skill or tool and applying it to come up with a unique and custom piece that fits my space and vision.

Where’s your favorite place in the world?
Home. Whether that is Virginia, New Orleans, or Florida. Wherever my friends and family are, is home. And home is always the best place to be.

Who would play you in a movie?
I’d like to think Bradley Cooper, but probably more like Ed Helms.

What tops your bucket list?
Visiting all 58 U.S. National Parks.

What are you currently reading?
Dare to Lead by Brene Brown

Dogs or cats?

What is a cause/charity you are passionate about and why?
I am passionate about supporting cancer charities, specifically blood cancer charities. Two of my best friends fought and beat Leukemia and I saw firsthand how tough a battle that can be.

What would you do if you won the lottery?
Travel! And bring along as many of my friends and family as possible.

My phone is filled with pictures of:
My wife.

Who is your dream dinner guest and why?
Right now, I’d have to say the Rock. He’s been on an amazing run lately, very successful but still very humble and down to earth. He also does amazing charity work. I think he’d be a fascinating person to have a conversation with. And he’s sure to have some amazing stories.
