Earn and Burn Your Thanksgiving Feast at the J

Published Wednesday, November 13, 2019

Pumpkin pie, turkey, stuffing, and that sweet potato casserole with that fluffy marshmallow topping — it’s all delicious, but it adds up. The average American Thanksgiving meal is a shocking 3,000 calories, according to the American Council on Exercise (ACE).

As you’re grazing the options at the holiday table, you may want to keep the calorie count of popular dishes in mind. But if you are like most Americans, you will need some help balancing out that Turkey Day indulgence. Thankfully, both our Uptown and Metairie campuses will be offering special Turkey Earner and Turkey Burner classes before and after Thanksgiving.

Earn ‘Dat Turkey

Uptown will host two 90-minute sessions of a special Turkey Earner Triple Threat workout. Participants will start with 30 minutes of indoor cycling taught by Eve followed by Power 30 with Josh. The session will wrap with a deep stretch for mind and body led by Brittany.

This event is open to members only, who can register for one of the two sessions, starting at 9:00 and 9:35 AM, at the Uptown fitness desk. The cost is $5 to participate, and all registration fees will support Second Harvest Food Bank.

Metairie members can join Julian for a 60-minute Turkey Earner fitness class at 8:30 AM the day before Thanksgiving. The fun-filled class will be designed to burn calories with cardio conditioning and strength training. The class is free for Universal and Metairie Gold members. Non-members can pay $10 to participate.

Burn ‘Dat Turkey

Once you’ve enjoyed your Thanksgiving feast, come burn off those extra calories Uptown with a Turkey Burner edition of Triple Threat. Michelle will kick off each session with 30 minutes of cycling. Josh will bring back Power 30. And, TiffJo will lead a final stretch session for the mind and body.

The Turkey Burner will also benefit Second Harvest Food Bank. This event is open to members only, who can register for one of the two sessions, starting at 9:00 and 9:35 AM, at the Uptown fitness desk. The cost is $5 to participate.

If you’re in Metairie, wake up and work off that holiday buffet at 8:30 AM. Lori will lead a 60-minute total body burn, created to work up a sweat and work off calories. No registration is required and the class is open to members and non-members. The non-member fee to participate is $10.
