The High Holidays, beginning the evening of Friday, September 18, will be celebrated differently this year as we follow social distancing protocols to keep each other safe during COVID-19. To help you observe these holidays at home, we’ve gathered virtual events from some of our favorite organizations.

Sins, Stars and Shofars: A Virtual Rosh Hashanah Experience

Join JewBelong for a virtual Rosh Hashanah on September 18, 2020, at 6:30 PM. The one-hour interactive event will take a deep dive into the Rosh Hashanah themes of Apology, Tashlich (casting off our sins and what no longer serves us well), and Legacy (what do you want to be written on your tombstone and how do you start living that way now?). The event is free and you can even follow along with JewBelong’s High Holidays Booklet.

Sins, Stars and Shofars will feature big names like Eric Balfour, Senator Cory Booker, Dan Bucatinsky, Pete Buttigieg, Gabrielle Carteris, Joanna Coles, Yuval David, Andy Einhorn, Ophira Eisenberg, Karith Foster, Judy Gold, Mandy Gonzalez, Jill Kargman, Richard Kind, Lisa Loeb, O’Neal McKnight, Larry Milstein, Alysia Reiner, Melissa Rivers, Bakari Sellers, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, The Sklar Brothers, Patti Stanger, Miriam Sternoff, Noa Tishby, Ritchie Torres, Sela Ward, Steven Weber, Eboni K. Williams, Ethan Zohn, and more.

Singing in the Sukkah

2 for Seder, an organization that fights Anti-Semitism through inclusion, will present Singing in the Sukkah on October 6, 2020, at 6:00 PM. The virtual event will feature performances from three musicians, including Sara Stock Mayo, from across North America. A donation is encouraged to help cover the cost of 2 for Seder’s Sukkot events and the development 2 for Seder’s Sukkot Guide. The Sukkot Guide will help you learn about Sukkot traditions, give you ideas for adapting the holiday to your home and family, Discussion Cards, and the SafeSukkah Fact Sheet to help you have a COVID-safe experience.

2021 Commemoration and Celebration Events

The global Jewish community will come together in the coming days to commemorate lives lost during the Holocaust, remember fallen Israeli soldiers and victims of terrorism, and celebrate Israel’s independence.

What's Changing at the JCC in Phase 3?

Following the city’s transition to a modified Phase 3, the New Orleans JCC will ease restrictions for fitness center users. We see this forward movement as a small step in getting back to normal; however, it is still our top priority to remain safe.

If you’re a member of the JCC, odds are that you’ve encountered the energetic and encouraging presence that is Michele Huck. As an instructor at the JCC for six years, Michele has done a little bit of everything from cycling, senior chair exercise, Barre, HIIT, and what she’s known most for these days –– LOTS of Aqua Fit.
