Describe yourself in three words.
Dedicated, Energetic, Compassionate
How long have you been with the JCC?
Since 1986 as a member
Describe what you do at the JCC.
I teach Pure Power and Senior Chair Fitness
What do you love most about your job?
I love the feeling at the end of class when participants feel challenged and accomplished. Knowing that people feel good about themselves after class makes me feel great!
If you could swap places with one other person at the JCC for a day, who would you pick and why?
This is tough. I feel like I’m on the 2nd floor and 3rd floor all the time so I’d love to spend the day on the 1stt floor. I’d love to switch places with Tevin and interact with every member as they walk in the door.
What is your favorite New Orleans restaurant and why?
This changes but currently I’m obsessed with Luvi. Chef Hao Gong is so creative and his dishes are works of art. My go-to for a quick bite is Le’s Baguette Banh Mi Cafe. It’s tucked away uptown on Dryades and has the best Vietnamese food.
Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us.
I took a gap year after college before I started teaching. I was a classroom teacher for about 20 years. During that year, I worked odd jobs and one was bartending and working the door at the Maple Leaf. It was a year full of live music
What’s one thing you couldn’t live without?
Tell us about someone you admire.
I really admire Maya Angelou and all that she accomplished as a writer, artist, civil rights activist, and feminist. Her books and poetry were an important part of my formative years.
Who would play you in a movie?
What are you currently reading?
Senior Fitness textbook, some Nora Ephron essays, and I’m rereading Bel Canto by Ann Panchett.
What is your all-time favorite movie?
Harold and Maude and Cinema Paradiso
What is a cause/charity you are passionate about and why?
I love Zeus’ Place and all they do for the community. We got our dog Izzy from them. Izzy was a hot mess but Zeus’ Place took her in (she was a stray/street dog) and nursed her back to health. During times of crisis, they help home animals and get them the care they need.
My phone is filled with pictures of:
My dogs Izzy and Hazel. They even have their own Instagram account. I have two teenage daughters but they are currently not allowing me to take their picture.
Who is your dream dinner guest and why?
Paul Rudd, because, well, he’s Paul Rudd. I think my husband would be okay with a friendly dinner.
