Staff Spotlight: Patrick Orillion

Published Tuesday, June 1, 2021

Nine must be Senior Fitness Center Manager Patrick Orillion's lucky number. He has been a member of the JCC staff for nine years, and he averages the equivalent of nine miles per day in steps around the facility each shift. Read below to learn a little more about Patrick, the unmistakable voice on the staff walkie-talkies, and the friendly face who keeps the fitness center running on nights and weekends.

Describe yourself in three words.
Open-hearted, Loyal, and Focused

How long have you been with the JCC?
9 years

What do you do at the JCC?
I am the Fitness Center Manager in the evenings, as well as on the weekends. I make staff schedules and produce Payroll for the Fitness Staff. I also conduct a program called “Teen Fit” which introduces teens ages 12-15 years to the fitness center, where they learn all about exercising and how to use all of the equipment at the JCC safely and effectively.

What do you love most about your job?
I get to see a one-hour snippet of hundreds of people's lives every day. It has been awesome to see people grow and achieve their goals. Also, I love being the first to introduce fitness to hundreds of teens and teaching them things about fitness that they’ll take and use their whole lives.

If you could swap places with one other person at the JCC for a day, who would you pick and why?
I would switch places with Coach Neal, I love to watch him work with our nursery school students and youth to teach them games and activities. His days are filled with tons of laughter (most of the time) and playing.

Where did you grow up?
On the Westbank in Algiers, New Orleans

What is your favorite New Orleans restaurant and why?
Neyows Creole Cafe or GW Fins

Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us.
I was on an award-winning BBQ Team, I spend a lot of my off time smoking meat in my driveway.

Where do you like to take out-of-town visitors?
I bring them to ride the ferry from Algiers Point to the French Quarter. It’s a view of the City skyline and the French Quarter that you can’t find anywhere else.

What’s one thing you couldn’t live without?
Air Conditioning

Who would play you in a movie?
Chris Pine, John Krasinski, or Tobey Mcguire

What tops your bucket list?
I've always dreamt about going deep sea fishing, I want to catch a fish so big that they have to strap me to the boat!

What is your greatest fear?
To be eaten alive whole by something.

What is your all-time favorite movie?
Jurassic Park or any Godzilla movie.

My phone is filled with pictures of:
With pictures of my dog Donnie, he is the biggest dufus and he’s full of expressions.
