Preparing to be a Great Support for Your College-bound Student

FREE RSVP

There can be a considerable learning curve for parents who have helped support and advocate for their children for 18 years before being "kicked out" of the process. The college will view your child as a capable young adult, but how do you learn to be their college parent? This session focuses on how parents can support their students as they become self-reliant and college-ready while still in high school. Topics include teaching teens to understand new responsibilities, preparing students for college academics, guiding their self-sufficient problem-solving, and supporting them as they build resilience after challenges and setbacks without the “scaffolding” of home.

We're excited to welcome Dr. Andrea Malkin Brenner back to the J! Andrea, a college transition educator and author who brings 25 years as a college professor and university administrator to her talks and workshops with high school and college audiences. At the event, we'll be selling Dr. Brenner's book How to College and her Talking College™ discussion prompt card decks.

This event is free and open to the community. A reservation is requested.

While students are welcome, the conversation is geared toward parents.
