WHO WE ARE
The New Orleans JCC is a state-of-the-art fitness center and pool, a leader in New Orleans early childhood education, a fun-filled summer day camp and so much more. It is a place for adults to take an exercise class, an art class or dance class. A place for children and teens to experience learning through enrichment classes, sports leagues, family activities, and summer camps. The JCC is built on Jewish values, but is welcome to everyone.
OUR GOALS
J on the Move empowers youth by providing community-driven fitness education that promotes physical strength, cardiovascular health, and overall wellness. Through inclusive, fun, and engaging activities, our program aims to increase self-confidence, improve focus and academic performance, and inspire a lifelong love for movement—helping students of all abilities realize their full potential while combating the sedentary nature of modern life.
KEY COMPONENTS
Key Components of the Program:
- Collaboration with Schools – We work closely with each school to tailor the program to meet their specific needs, ensuring every student benefits from a holistic approach to health and wellness. Whether it's bringing students to the JCC to utilize our pools for swim lessons, group exercise studios, exercise equipment, and facilities, or bringing our JCC professionals to the schools to host health and wellness programs on-site, including fitness or cooking demos, we provide flexible options to meet the needs of every community.
- Pre- and Post-Assessments: To track individual progress, all participants will undergo pre- and post-program measurements, evaluating key fitness indicators such as strength, endurance, and flexibility. This data will allow us to tailor the program to the specific needs of the student population and track the growth over time.
- Strength and Conditioning Workouts: During physical education hours, students will participate in structured workouts designed to improve muscle mass, cardiovascular health, and overall fitness. These workouts will be fun, engaging, and suitable for all fitness levels, ensuring every student can participate and benefit.
- “J on the Move” T-shirts: Each participant will receive a custom J on the Move T-shirt as a symbol of their commitment to the program. This t-shirt will serve as a reminder of their journey toward better health and self-confidence. It will also serve to foster a sense of community among the participants.
- Educational Field Trip to the J: As part of the program, students will have the opportunity to visit the JCC for a hands-on educational field trip. This will allow students to see and experience firsthand how fitness professionals design workouts and how they can continue their fitness journey beyond the school setting.
- Engaging Experiences – Through interactive programs, workshops, demonstrations, and group activities, students gain the knowledge and confidence to take charge of their health in a fun and safe way. These valuable skills are not just for the program—they empower students to continue living healthier lives long after they’ve completed it.
