Camp Details 2026

Camp Programming

JCC camps pack summer days with fun! Campers enjoy a diverse mix of age-appropriate activities including pool time and swim instruction, plus sports, art, drama, music, science and yoga.

Here are sample schedules to give you an idea of what a summer at the J might look like for your camper.

Swimming

At JCC Summer Camp, we believe the best way to beat the Nola heat is by splashing around in pool. Campers swim daily at JCC summer camp by participating in at least one of our camp aquatics programs (Swim Skills, Free Swim).

Swim Skills - The mission of the Swim Skills program is to teach our campers water safety and basic strokes while helping them build confidence in the pool. Swim instruction is designed using the American Red Cross Learn to Swim program.

Chaverim - Zion campers will participate in multiple sessions of Swim Skills each week with certified Water Safety Instructors (WSI). During these sessions, campers will be assessed and divided into groups based on the skills they need to work on.  During this time, your camper will receive supervision and assistance from our counselors, lifeguards, and Water Safety Instructors.

Pool Safety - Safety is always our top priority here at the JCC. During the summer months, our staff grows by dozens of lifeguards charged with the important responsibility of keeping everyone safe by the pool.

An important tool we use to ensure summer water safety is our “Test. Mark. Protect.” swim skills assessment. We administer this test to children ages five to 12 at both our Uptown and Metairie pools. Learn more about Swimmer Safety here.

Camp Traditions

Dress Up Days - In true New Orleans fashion, NOJCC Summer Camps loves a dress up day. The camp programming team announces weekly themes for campers to dress up in. Annual favorites include superhero day, Fairytale dress up, and favorite animal day!

Maccabiah Color War Week - Each year, campers go head to head in a variety of competitions representing their assigned color team! Competitions go beyond sports, with art tasks, team building, and song writing. Each year the competition is fierce to see who will be Maccabiah Champion!

Oneg Shabbat - Every Friday, the camp week comes to a close with a community shabbat celebration. Campers get to perform and showcase their awesome week at camp before ending the week with shabbat songs and prayers.

Tkiya creates participatory music experiences that meet participants where they are – physically, psychologically, and spiritually – to find their unique connection to Jewish culture and community.

DRAMA - Our drama specialists teach the foundations of performing arts through games, small plays, and other engaging exercises that get campers up and moving.
