Youth Sports

Our community celebrates the joys of childhood and encourages the independence of youth. For decades, New Orleans families have trusted the JCC with their children, and we have responded with a year-round mix of programming, classes and competitions. We offer sports programs at both of our locations.  Contact Neal Alsop (Uptown) or PJ Jones (Metairie) with questions. 


 

Uptown

Basketball

Basketball U6  
Have fun and learn the basics in this introduction to basketball. Players ages 4 and 5 participate in skills and drills at our weekday practices and experience "game day" every Sunday as we divide our group and play against each other.

Basketball U9
In this introductory class for boys and girls ages 6 to 8, basketball fundamentals and basics are emphasized as players gradually progress towards scrimmages and games.

 

Flag Football

Flag Football U9
An introductory class for boys and girls ages 6 to 8, football fundamentals and basics are emphasized as players gradually progress towards scrimmages and games.

Flag Football U13
Advanced class designed for boys and girls ages 9 to 12 interested in improving all aspects of their game, with an emphasis on fundamentals and basics.

Lacrosse

This no-contact, introductory class will focus on the basic skills a player needs to know before advancing to higher levels, including lacrosse techniques, rules, and gameplay. Great for children who have never picked up a lacrosse stick.

 

Soccer

Soccer U6
In this introduction to soccer, boys and girls ages 4 and 5 participate in skills and drills at weekday practices and experience "game day" every Sunday as we divide our group and play each other. 

Soccer U9
Players ages 6 to 8 participate in drills to develop fundamental skills and gameplay. On Sundays, players divide into teams to play games. 



Sports Hour

 
Participants will be exposed to a multitude of sports as we learn the rules and basic skills that apply to each game. Great introduction to the concept of team sports as well as individual skill development. Comfortable clothing with socks and shoes required. Based on weather, we will conduct program both indoors and outside.  Masks are required.

T-Ball

T-Ball U6
An introduction to baseball, t-ball focuses on fundamentals, rules and gameplay for ages 4 and 5. Gloves are encouraged but not required.

 

Metairie

Basketball


Basketball U6  
In this introductory class for boys and girls ages 4 and 5, basketball fundamentals are emphasized. We will focus on improving basic basketball skills through drills and fun, movement-oriented games. Activities will be performed at a safe social distance. Masks are required for class.


Basketball U9
In this class for boys and girls ages 6-8, basketball fundamentals and basic skills are emphasized as players gradually progress and improve their abilities. We will not hold scrimmage games this season, but instead will focus specifically on dribbling, passing and defensive skills. Social distances will be maintained and masks will be required for class.

 

Flag Football

Flag Football U9
Introductory class/league for boys and girls ages 6 to 8. Emphasis on fundamentals and basics as players gradually progress towards scrimmages and games. Sundays will alternate between Uptown and Metairie Campuses. 



Lacrosse

This no-contact, introductory class for players ages 6 to 8 will focus on the basic skills a player needs to know before advancing to higher levels, including lacrosse techniques, rules, and gameplay. It is perfect for children who have never picked up a lacrosse stick.

 

Soccer

Soccer league for ages 6 to 8. Weekdays players participate in drills to develop fundamentals and gameplay. Sundays players divide into teams and play games. 

 

Sports and Fitness Hour

Sports and Fitness Hour
Sports and Fitness Hour is a fun, high energy program that concentrates on establishing a strong foundation for overall athletic movements and sport-specific skills. Each week will focus on developing a different set of skills, so no two classes feel the same. From agility to hand-eye coordination, soccer to basketball, balance to reaction, baseball to football, our coaches and young athletes will cover it all! Class primarily takes place outdoors and numbers are limited. Masks and water bottles are required.


T-Ball

An introduction to baseball, t-ball focuses on fundamentals, rules and game play for ages 4 and 5. Gloves are encouraged but not required.

 

PE for Homeschool

The J offers a physical education program for children who are homeschooled. Children will participate in a social setting that focuses on general fitness, team building and basic sports skills.
