J University: From Renaissance to Performance: A Journey Through Western Arts
This course traces the evolution of Western art from the Renaissance to contemporary performance, exploring the cultural, social, and psychological shifts that shaped artistic expression across painting, music, theater, and performance. It highlights iconic works and lesser-known pieces, examining the impact of political, religious, and philosophical movements on the arts through various historical periods.
This course is taught by Dr. Ari Ofengenden, a Professor of Practice at Tulane University. He has written extensively on German-Jewish culture, ideology, globalization and pyschoanalysis and capitalism.

J University: The Prophets of the Hebrew Bible
This engaging adult education course delves into the lives, messages, and historical contexts of the prophets of the Hebrew Bible. From Isaiah and Ezekiel to Amos and Micah, participants will explore the prophetic tradition, examining how these figures challenged their societies, called for justice, and shaped religious thought.
Through close readings of biblical texts, discussions on historical and cultural background, and reflections on the relevance of prophetic themes today, learners will gain a deeper understanding of these powerful voices. The course will also explore key theological concepts such as covenant, repentance, and divine justice, as well as the literary styles and rhetorical techniques used by the prophets.
Dr. Jason Gaines is Senior Professor of Practice and Director of Undergraduate Studies for the Dept. of Jewish Studies at Tulane University, where he teaches Hebrew Bible and ancient Judaism.
